Welcome to the other side of me! This a separation from my personal life’s stories and poetry to the world I follow and history which I love!

I am starting this Substack primarily because of what the world we live in has become. I will continue to write my personal stories and poetry on Butterflies Don’t Carry Rocks and its sections as a separate entity from Monica’s Dark Corner.

I’ve been urged by several people to get my voice out there about subjects which I am passionate about, such as what truths we were not taught in school about Southern Heritage, life, and preparing for what’s to possibly come in uncertain times ahead. I will be sharing old-school remedies some which are documented using last century’s medical and gardening books, and some survival preparations, otherwise referred to as prepper stuff. We have been practicing preppers and have been for most of our married life which is now reaching the 53rd mark.

The “Dark Corner” is named for an area of South Carolina located in near Glassy Mountain in the northwest corner of the county I live in. It was a place known during the 19th century and was feared for gunfights, rowdy outlaws and dangerous moonshiners. We have lived in the Deep South for more than 30 years and have lived here longer than anywhere else in my life. I have a deep appreciation for the Southern Culture and its history. The beauty of the backroads brings adventure and surprises at every turn. The South keeps its history alive unlike so many areas of the country where we lived. I understand the people and have done enough research during our years here, that I was actually presented with my “Green Card” by the President of the local Greenville Chapter of the Sons of the Confederacy last year. I was honored to be a recipient of this card considering I am a Northerner. They said they wouldn’t hold it against me, and I was happy to know that.

I will post frequently, but I cannot promise I will post every day, simply because I live life, and also when it’s a beautiful day, I am not connected to an electronic device. I am outdoors trying to soak up what Vitamin D I can from the polluted skies and enjoy gardening, camping, and nature. Life is too short in the “Golden Years” and it’s time to let people know what I have learned in my life.

I appreciate anyone who reads this page, and especially those who decide to subscribe. For my paid subscribers, your appreciation is beyond measure. It gives worth to my life, and I will try not to disappoint you all!

Thank you, and I value your presence here on my Dark Corner. Peace to all who reads this publication & God Bless!
